Across 19 Indiana move-in and move-out cleans we completed between January and October 2026, the median job total was $660, add-ons included. 8 of them were in Indianapolis, and the rest were spread across the suburbs and Southern Indiana. Unlike our big-city markets, most were family houses: 14 of the 19 were three- or four-bedroom homes. This guide shows what Indiana customers actually paid, the extras that move the price, what Indiana landlords look at and how to book a clean that protects your deposit.

What move-out cleaning costs in Indianapolis

Our move-out cleaning starts at $190 for a small apartment. Real totals depend on bedrooms and bathrooms, the condition of the home and the extras you add. These are the totals Indiana customers paid, by home size:

Indiana move-in and move-out cleaning, completed jobs, January–October 2026, add-ons included
Home sizeMedian paidRange paidJobs
1 bedroom$680$324–$1,3003
3 bedrooms$608$398–$1,22810
4 bedrooms$933$903–$1,0854

A 3-bedroom house came to a median of $608 and a 4-bedroom to $933. The one-bedroom figure is higher than you might expect because those jobs carried heavy extras; size matters, but condition and add-ons often matter more. Your own price is always confirmed in writing before you book, and it does not change on the day unless you add work.

What the base price includes

Every move-out clean covers the whole home to the same checklist. Kitchens get counters, sink, the outside of appliances, cabinet fronts and the inside of empty cabinets and drawers. Bathrooms get the tub or shower, tile, toilet, vanity, mirror and fixtures. Every room gets dusting from the top down, light switches and door handles wiped, baseboards wiped, closets cleared and floors vacuumed and mopped. The team brings its own supplies and equipment, so you can pack yours.

What is priced separately is anything that takes real extra time: the inside of the oven and fridge, walls and ceilings, carpet extraction, exterior windows, a basement or garage, and heavy grease or pet hair.

The extras Indiana movers add most

In Indiana the extras are almost standard. Out of 19 Indiana move jobs, 19 added appliances cleaned inside and out, 11 added walls and ceilings wiped and 10 added deep carpet cleaning. 3 added pet hair removal. That pattern fits the housing: carpeted bedrooms and stairs, full-size kitchens and family use add up over a tenancy. If your home has any of these, choosing them at booking is cheaper than a second visit after the walk-through.

  • Inside the oven and fridge: the most common cleaning deduction in any rental
  • Carpet: worth adding when bedrooms, stairs or a basement are carpeted, especially with pets
  • Walls: scuffs along hallways and stairs, fingerprints by switches, kitchen film
  • Hard-water scale: showers, glass doors and faucets, which Indiana water marks quickly

Houses, doubles and apartments

  • Three- and four-bedroom houses: more bathrooms, more carpet, often a basement or garage; plan most of a day
  • Doubles (side-by-side duplexes): common in older Indianapolis neighborhoods, usually with a basement or porch to include
  • Apartments and townhomes: quicker, but check parking and gate access; ask the manager whether carpet must be professionally cleaned
  • New-build rentals: watch for construction dust still in vents and window tracks

Pets and carpet

Pet hair works deep into carpet and upholstery, and pet odor is one of the few problems a landlord can smell before they see. If you have cats or dogs, add pet hair removal and carpet extraction to the move-out booking, vacuum vents and returns where hair collects, and wash or remove pet bedding before the team arrives. Extraction needs a few hours to dry, so book the clean early enough that carpets are dry for the walk-through; in humid summer weather, leave the air conditioning running.

Booking as a landlord or property manager

Many Indiana move cleans are booked by landlords and property managers between tenants rather than by the tenant leaving. The same checklist works for a turnover: kitchen and bathrooms reset, appliances cleaned inside, carpet extracted and the home ready for photos and showings. Send the address, access details and lockbox code, and ask for photos when the team finishes, so you have a dated record of the condition the next tenant receives.

What Indiana landlords check at move-out

Indiana law lets a landlord deduct the cost of damage beyond ordinary wear and tear, listed with the cost on an itemized notice. The cleaning issues that turn into deductions are much the same in most Indiana rentals:

  • Kitchen: inside the oven, fridge, freezer and microwave, range hood degreased, cabinets wiped inside
  • Bathrooms: tub, shower glass and tile descaled, toilet base, vanity, faucets and fixtures
  • Carpet: stains, pet hair and traffic lanes
  • Vents, registers, baseboards and door frames
  • Window tracks and sills
  • Garage and basement swept out, nothing left behind

Moving in instead?

A move-in clean uses the same checklist on the day you get the keys, before your furniture arrives. It is the easiest time to wipe inside every cabinet, closet and drawer, descale the shower and sanitize the kitchen. Many Indiana searches are for a “deep clean before moving in”, and that is what it is: the price works the same way, by size, condition and extras. Take your own photos of the home before the team starts, so your move-in record shows the condition you were handed, not the condition after our clean.

When to book

Indiana move cleans are spread through the year, with a summer peak: 10 of our 19 Indiana move jobs fell between June and August. Book one to two weeks ahead in summer and around month-end. Schedule the clean after the movers leave and before the walk-through. In winter, allow for snow and expect the team to put down mats so salt and mud are not tracked back in. If the utilities are being switched off, keep water and power on until the clean is finished; the team needs both, and a cold, dark house cannot be cleaned properly.

How to keep the price down

  • Empty the home completely, including the garage, basement and attic storage
  • Defrost and empty the fridge and freezer the day before
  • Send photos with the quote request so the price is confirmed first
  • Book move-out and carpet cleaning in one visit rather than two
  • Point out problem areas in advance: heavy grease, pet hair or a neglected bathroom
