Hudson, River Falls and New Richmond have grown quickly as places to live within reach of the Twin Cities, and the most common question we get from the Wisconsin side of the river is what a clean will cost. This guide sets out our published starting prices, the things that move a quote up or down in St. Croix Valley homes, and how to get a firm price in writing before you book.

We have only recently started taking bookings in the St. Croix Valley, and there are too few Wisconsin jobs in our records to publish local averages. So this guide uses our published starting prices and explains, factor by factor, what moves a quote.

Our starting prices

Every service has a published starting price. It is the price for a small, well-kept home with no extras, and it is the same in Wisconsin as in every other state we work in:

Move-out cleaning$190

What every visit includes

The starting price buys the full checklist, not a stripped-down visit. A regular clean covers kitchen counters, sink and the outside of appliances, bathrooms cleaned and sanitized, dusting from the top down, mirrors and glass, beds made, trash out, and floors vacuumed and mopped. A deep clean adds baseboards, doors and frames by hand, vents, fans and light fixtures, grout and shower glass. A move-out clean adds the inside of every empty cabinet, closet and drawer. Teams bring their own supplies and equipment.

What sets your price

  • Size: bedrooms, bathrooms and living areas, and especially the number of bathrooms
  • Type of clean: regular upkeep, a top-to-bottom deep clean, or a move-out clean of an empty home with inside cabinets, closets and drawers included
  • Condition: time since the last thorough clean, kitchen grease, bathroom scale, pet hair, construction dust
  • Extras: inside the oven and fridge, walls and ceilings, windows, the basement or garage
  • Access: stairs, parking, gate or garage codes, and distance for rural homes

How St. Croix Valley homes differ

  • New-build houses in Hudson, New Richmond and River Falls subdivisions: open plans, more bathrooms and often a finished lower level; if the home is very new, construction dust in vents and tracks adds time
  • Older homes in Prescott, Hudson and River Falls: woodwork, plaster, older windows and steeper stairs mean more hand detailing
  • Student rentals near the university in River Falls: several bedrooms and shared kitchens and bathrooms; move-outs bunch up at the end of the school year
  • Lake and rural homes around Star Prairie, Somerset and Osceola: mudrooms, larger kitchens, decks and longer drives

Basements and lower levels

Most homes here have a basement, and many newer ones have a finished lower level with a family room, a bathroom and a bedroom. A finished lower level is priced like the rest of the living space. An unfinished basement is usually a sweep, cobwebs, the laundry area and the stairs. Tell us which you have when you book, so the time and price are right first time. Lower-level bathrooms and wet bars count like any other bathroom or kitchenette.

The seasons change the job

Winter is long here. From November to March, salt, sand and slush come in on every boot and settle on entry floors, rugs and the bottom of walls, and furnace heat bakes dust onto registers. Spring brings mud season and pollen, summer brings humidity and open windows, and fall brings leaves into every entry. A recurring plan keeps these seasonal extras small; a one-off deep clean after a long winter usually takes the longest. Snowy days can also move arrival times, so leave a little slack when you book a winter visit before guests arrive.

Cleaning around a commute

Many households on the Wisconsin side commute into Minneapolis or Saint Paul, so the most popular arrangement is a fixed weekday visit while everyone is out. Leave access and garage-code details once, tell us about pets, and the team works to the same checklist every visit. A bi-weekly visit suits most homes; weekly suits families with pets or young children.

Move-out cleaning in a rental

A move-out clean includes the inside of every empty cabinet, closet and drawer, appliances on request and the checklist landlords use at inspection. Wisconsin landlords have 21 days to return a deposit with an itemized statement of anything kept; see our Wisconsin deposit guide. If you rent a student house in River Falls, agree with your housemates in advance who books and pays for the clean.

Selling or buying a home

Buyers moving out from the Twin Cities tend to look closely at kitchens, bathrooms and the lower level. A pre-sale clean a day or two before listing photos makes the most difference; if you have already moved out, a move-out clean of the empty house does the same job. Buying a new build? A post-construction clean after the builder’s final touch-ups removes the dust a construction clean leaves behind.

Pets

Pet hair is one of the biggest single factors in how long a clean takes, because it has to be vacuumed out of corners, stairs, vents and upholstery before anything else can be wiped. Mention pets when you book so the time is planned in, and consider a weekly rather than bi-weekly plan if you have more than one dog.

Extras worth adding

  • Inside the oven and fridge: the first thing a landlord or buyer opens
  • Walls and ceilings: salt splash at the bottom of entry walls, scuffs on stairs, kitchen film
  • Windows and tracks: especially after a long winter
  • Appliances: dishwasher filters, washers and the garage fridge or chest freezer
  • Garage: a sweep and a rinse of salt off the floor once winter ends
  • Lower level: a finished basement family room, bathroom or wet bar

How to get an exact price

Book online in about two minutes and the price is calculated from your answers, or ask for a free written quote and send a few photos of the kitchen, bathrooms and any problem areas. We confirm the price and a vetted, insured local team before anything is booked. If anything on the checklist is missed, tell us within 36 hours and we come back to put it right.

Ways to keep the price down

  • Clear counters, floors and stairs before the visit
  • Choose the extras you really need
  • Empty the fridge and freezer before an appliance clean
  • Send photos so the quote is right first time
  • Keep the result with a recurring plan instead of repeated deep cleans
