Recurring visits reduce the per-visit price: weekly and bi-weekly schedules are discounted against the one-off rate because the home never returns to a full-scrub state between visits. Add-ons such as inside-oven, inside-fridge and interior windows are priced separately and are the most common reason a first quote sits above what someone expected.
Lake-effect winters and the Michigan cleaning year
From November to April, Michigan's problem is what comes in on boots. Road salt and brine on hardwood and laminate is corrosive as well as unsightly, and lake-effect snow across the west and the Upper Peninsula extends the season by weeks at either end. Interiors are sealed up for those months, so dust, pet dander and cooking grease build in rooms that never get an open window, and by March most homes need a genuine deep clean rather than a maintenance pass. What affects your price in Michigan
Where a Michigan quote lands inside its band is usually decided before winter, by the house itself.
- Salt and brine on entries, hallways and stair treads for five months of the year.
- Radiators and cast-iron baseboard, which have to be cleaned between fins by hand.
- Finished basements and lower levels, standard across metro Detroit and Grand Rapids.

Minimum wage and what it does to Michigan cleaning rates
Michigan's minimum wage rose to $13.73 an hour in January 2026 under the state's scheduled increases, with a separate tipped rate that does not apply to cleaning work. It is a meaningful floor and it has pulled the bottom of the independent market up, particularly around Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor where crews compete with hospitality and retail for the same people. What the wage floor does affect is the credibility of a very low local quote: below roughly $25 an hour per cleaner, an insured team in Michigan is not covering wage, payroll tax, mileage and supplies, and something in that stack is missing.
Deposits and move-out cleaning in Michigan
A Michigan landlord who wants to claim against your deposit must mail you an itemized list of damages within 30 days of the end of occupancy, and the notice must tell you in larger type that you have seven days to respond by mail or you forfeit the amount claimed.
